RE: Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program
Dear Community Leaders,
The office of Congresswoman Cori Bush would like to share this exciting funding opportunity with you. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced a new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program. The program seeks to remove barriers to health linked to race or ethnicity, education, income, location, or other social factors and aims to improve health among racial and ethnic populations with the highest risk of chronic diseases.
Recipients will plan and carry out local, culturally appropriate activities including activities to: Improve nutrition by promoting nutrition standards and using fruit and vegetable incentive and produce prescription programs.
- Increase physical activity through community design.
- Work in one of these areas: breastfeeding continuity of care; nutrition, physical activity, and breastfeeding in early care and education; family healthy weight programs; or commercial tobacco prevention and control.
Applicants may opt to include a strategy related to increasing uptake of influenza, COVID-19, and other routinely recommended adult vaccines.
Since 1999, REACH has worked with more than 180 communities to create environments that make healthy choices easier. The 2018 REACH Program has thus far implemented healthy nutrition standards in 122 community settings with 638,805 people potentially impacted. It created 1,305 actual linear miles and 1,990 potential linear miles of activity-friendly routes in new or improved or plans. In addition, 120 clinics have formal partnerships with locally available health and preventative programs with 16,777 patients referred and 7,349 enrolled. We look forward to continuing this work in the new cycle.
Funding is for a five-year period, pending the continued availability of funding. Details about this funding opportunity and how to apply can be found at: View Opportunity | GRANTS.GOV
Applications are due by April 11, 2023, with an anticipated award date of August 2023.
